Gratitude

“Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.”

– Eckhart Tolle,  A New Earth

We are now into the holiday season. This is an important and wonderful opportunity slow down, rest, and take time to reflect.  One of the most beneficial things you can do, is to become conscious of all that you have to be grateful for.

The feeling of gratitude is one of the highest, most fulfilling emotions we can experience. I love practising gratitude in my life because it helps me to focus on the good that I already have, and it uplifts my spirits.

When you feel thankful, you may also notice a fullness in your heart. It can help you shift from feeling limitation and fear, to feeling expansive and loving. Often we take things in life for granted. But when we pause and give thanks for all that we do have, we can be deeply moved. This can be an “Aha’ moment.

Take a few moments now to contemplate what you can be grateful for today: the people in your life, where you live, material comforts, health, those who help you each day, memories, beauty, dreams, scenery, sunsets, friendships, skills, art, books, music and laughter.  Maybe pick up the phone and call friend to tell them what they mean to you. Give thanks for the challenges in your life: they make you stronger.

You don’t have to wait for something good to happen before you are grateful. You can experience gratitude right now. The first step is simply to take a deep breath. As you exhale, let go of any underlying feelings of fear or anxiety you may have. As you let go, become conscious of everything you are grateful for.

Notice your breath as you inhale again. Notice how you feel.

Living life with gratitude can make you feel happier and fulfilled.  Notice when you express thanks, that your own heart fills.  This one act can make a huge difference in your life and the lives of others. Your gratitude spreads. It is like a magnetic force that draws to you more of what you are grateful for.

Here are some other benefits of feeling grateful:

  • You are reminded of what is really important in life

  • You notice the abundance that you already have

  • Your peace of mind is enhanced

  • By focusing on the positive, it helps you overcome challenges

As you maintain your focus on things to be grateful for, you will have your love and gratitude to share with others during the holiday season.

I am grateful to share this message of gratitude with you. May your heart be fulfilled, and may you experience the deeper gifts of Christmas this season.

Warmest wishes,
Brenda
